The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Department of School Education, Government of Nagaland, demanding the immediate retention and redeployment of teachers in schools across Eastern Nagaland left without replacements following the recent teacher rationalisation exercise.

In a memorandum addressed to the Commissioner and Secretary of the department, the ENSF expressed strong concern over the August 22 teacher rationalisation order (No. EDN/PLN/RATIONALIZATION/2023), which saw several teachers transferred out of Eastern Nagaland schools without relievers being deputed against sanctioned posts.

The federation noted that the absence of subject teachers has “severely hampered” the academic progress of students in the region. It also recalled its earlier representation to the department on August 26 (Ref. No. ENSF/DoSE/Rep.-01/25-26), which went unanswered.

Stating that it has been left with “no other option,” the ENSF warned that it would be compelled to launch peaceful, phase-wise agitation if the government fails to address its demands within seven days. The federation reiterated that its movement would continue until the issue is resolved and the demands are met.

The ultimatum, signed by ENSF President Nuheymong Yim and Secretary General James Konyak, underscores growing discontent among student bodies in Eastern Nagaland over gaps in the education sector, particularly the lack of subject teachers in rural and remote schools.
