“No schemes if BJP loses”: Arunachal panchayat minister’s threat triggers MCC violation row

Arunachal Pradesh has been jolted by a major political controversy after Panchayat, Transport and Rural Development Minister Ojing Tasing allegedly issued an open threat to voters during an election campaign in Lower Dibang Valley district.

With Panchayat and Municipal elections scheduled for December 15 and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) currently in force, the Minister’s remarks have triggered widespread criticism for blatantly undermining the democratic process.

While campaigning for BJP Zilla Parishad Candidate Gunu Linggi, Tasing reportedly declared that government schemes would be withheld from villages and segments where the BJP fails to secure victory.

“Government schemes will not be implemented in those villages and segments where the BJP candidate loses the election, and I, being the Panchayat Minister, am giving this statement to ensure it will happen,” he allegedly said, drawing immediate backlash for weaponising development programmes to influence voters.
