The office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, organized a programme on Wednesday for the distribution of sanction orders under the Chief Minister’s Youth Development Scheme (CMYDS) for the financial year 2024–25. The event, held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Khliehriat, covered beneficiaries from Wapung, Saipung, and Lumshnong C&RD Blocks.

A total amount of Rs. 16.71 lakh was sanctioned to 33 beneficiaries, including NGOs, groups, societies, institutions, and clubs under the CMYDS.

Sutnga–Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla attended the programme as the chief guest in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi (IAS), Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Planning Officer S.R. Marak (MCS), and other officials from the Planning Branch and District Rural Development Agency (DRDA).

In her address, MLA Shylla congratulated the organisations for their contribution towards youth empowerment and encouraged them to continue engaging young people in constructive activities that promote their overall growth. She reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting youth through initiatives such as CM Elevate and PRIME Meghalaya, which focus on skill development, sports, and entrepreneurship.

She further urged NGOs and organisations to utilise the sanctioned funds judiciously for the welfare of youth in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi, in his address, highlighted the government’s continued efforts to promote youth development in line with the vision of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. He said the CMYDS operates within the broader framework of the Meghalaya Youth Policy, which aims to channel the energy of young people into productive areas such as sports, culture, and education.

Awasthi also encouraged organisations to diversify their initiatives beyond sports and awareness programmes by including training in photography, marketing, and computer skills, and by organising study tours to institutions like IIT Guwahati and ISRO Bengaluru to inspire youth and students.
