Former Tipra Motha supremo and MDC Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of engaging in communal politics and misleading the public with slogans like “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
Speaking at a Tipra Motha joining event held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here in Agartala city, Debbarma alleged that the BJP judges citizens based on religion while publicly promoting unity. “If someone says ‘Thansa’, it’s branded communal. But ‘Sabka Vikas’ is seen as unity. What kind of hypocrisy is this?” he questioned.
He further claimed that tribal individuals are being lured into joining the BJP in exchange for money. “Those who have no concern for the future of our people have no place in our party,” Debbarma asserted. “I do not engage in cheap politics. I fight for the development of the Tiprasa community.”
Debbarma also criticized the CPI(M) and Congress, accusing all three major parties of prioritizing power over public welfare. “None of their leaders think about the future of Tripura’s next generation. They only knock on people’s doors during elections,” he said. “Tipra Motha continues to fight for the future of the Tiprasa people.”
Taking aim at the BJP’s ongoing membership drives, Debbarma mocked the inflated figures reportedly sent to Delhi. “If four people join, they report 400. At this rate, the tribal population will soon cross one crore. The state BJP is feeding false data to the Centre. Elections cannot be won with lies.”
Addressing recent bandh controversies, Debbarma clarified that Tipra Motha never called for a shutdown. “An MLA may have participated, but I never publicly supported it. Even during my time in Congress, I opposed bandhs because they hurt the poor,” he said.
He concluded by emphasizing that since Tipra Motha’s emergence, Tripura has not witnessed any communal unrest. “Because I don’t practice cheap politics,” Debbarma stated.
