Assam Rifles Seized Arms And Ammunition In Mizoram

The Assam Rifles have recovered a major cache of arms, ammunition, and war-like stores from Saikumphai in Mizoram’s Champhai district during an operation conducted on October 24. The force confirmed the recovery in a statement issued on Monday.

According to officials, the recovered items include six 60mm mortar tubes with base plates, two Myanmar-made 7.62mm assault rifles, three shotguns, two .22 rifles, one hand grenade, forty live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, fifteen 60mm mortar rounds, two anti-personnel mines, and two radio sets with antennas and a charger. The seized materials have been handed over to the Dungtlang Police in Champhai for further investigation.

In another coordinated operation with the Arunachal Pradesh Police on October 25, Assam Rifles troops apprehended a United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) cadre, identified as Self-Styled Corporal Thawseng Asom alias Anupom Dohatiya, 24, of Makum Bariakoli in Tinsukia district, Assam. The insurgent was reportedly involved in the October 17 attack on an Army camp at Kakopathar.

During subsequent searches near Pathargaon, security forces recovered an MQ-RA81 rifle, three magazines, 151 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one rifle grenade, and one hand grenade. The apprehended individual and the seized arms have been handed over to Arunachal Pradesh Police for legal proceedings.Earlier, on October 19, the Assam Rifles seized a large consignment of 90 bags of poppy seeds and 120 bags of areca nuts in Champhai, Mizoram. The seizure, valued at approximately ₹99 lakh, was made following an operation on October 17 based on specific intelligence along Farlui Road, Ruantlang. The confiscated goods were handed over to the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai.

Assam Rifles stated that these recoveries reflect its ongoing commitment to combat illegal activities and maintain stability and security in the border regions of the Northeast.
