Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Tuesday emphasized the Arunachal Pradesh government’s commitment to advancing reforms and promoting sustainable growth in the state’s power sector.

Speaking at the 8th State Advisory Committee meeting of the Arunachal Pradesh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (APSERC) at the civil secretariat, Mein called for collective efforts from all stakeholders to enhance efficiency and transparency in the electricity system.

He noted that while the Electricity Act, 2003 provided a framework for operational improvements, the sector continues to face challenges such as high technical and commercial losses. Describing Arunachal as a key hydropower hub of the Northeast, Mein highlighted the ongoing transformation in the state’s energy sector through hydropower expansion, renewable energy integration, and adoption of modern technologies.

Mein also stressed the importance of APSERC in ensuring transparency and protecting consumer interests, suggesting enhanced institutional and financial support, including the creation of a dedicated independent office for the commission.

The meeting was attended by senior officials and experts from the departments of Consumer Affairs and Transport, the State Load Despatch Centre, IIT Kanpur, the All India Discom Association, Power Grid, NHPC, and other utilities to discuss policy strategies for strengthening the state’s electricity network.
