CM Golay reaffirms zero-tolerance on threats to national security; upholds Sikkim’s legacy of peace and Constitutional integrity

While addressing a public function in Gangtok today, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Golay delivered a firm and unequivocal message: under his leadership, the Government of Sikkim will permit no ideology, action, or actor that threatens the national security, territorial integrity, or constitutional order of the Republic of India.

At this historic juncture, as Sikkim celebrates 50 years of statehood, the occasion is not only a reflection of how the people of Sikkim cherish their identity as proud Indians, but it is also a reminder of how this small Himalayan state has, with peace and dignity, contributed to the nation by safeguarding the Union through its vital geopolitical position.

The Chief Minister today reflected on the deep responsibilities that accompany the state’s unique geopolitical position sharing borders with Bhutan, China and Nepal and emphasised that Sikkim’s peace and stability are an essential contribution to the security of the entire nation.

Chief Minister Prem Singh TamangGolay’s address makes it clear that while democratic dissent and constructive criticism are welcome in Sikkim’s public life, but the government will not tolerate provocation, incitement, or any attempt to disturb communal harmony or public order for any narrow political ends. Any activity that seeks to foment unrest, undermine national decisions, or endanger public safety will be addressed decisively and within the full scope of the law.

The Government reiterates that national security remains its highest priority. State institutions will act swiftly and lawfully wherever allegations of sedition, incitement to violence, or attempts to subvert public order arise. The rule of law will guide every response; the protection of citizens, families, and frontline communities will remain paramount.

Sikkim’s record of peace and cohesion has been built through inclusive governance, respect for diversity, and policies that prioritise social welfare and environmental stewardship. Under the Chief Minister’s vision, various programmes under the Government of Sikkim reinforce the social compact between government and people strengthening resilience against forces that seek to harm our collective harmony.

The Chief Minister calls upon all political actors, community leaders, civil society, and citizens to uphold this shared responsibility. Constructive dialogue, lawful protest, and democratic engagement are healthy for our polity; violence, intimidation, or attempts to exploit fear will be rejected by the people and addressed by the state.
