Clarifying its position, the UKNA stated that it poses no threat to society or the Indian Army, reiterating its firm stand for a peaceful resolution through the creation of a Separate Administration in the form of Union Territory with Legislature.

The United Kuki National Army (UKNA) has issued a strong condemnation of what it described as a cowardice act committed in collusion with security forces at Khanpi on November 4, where four of its cadres were killed in their sleep.

In a press statement issued by the outfit’s Department of Home Affairs, the organisation denounced the incident as an inhumane and unjust act, asserting that it reflects betrayal and cowardice.

“UKNA condemns the cowardly act of those who acted in connivance with security forces at Khanpi on 4th November, where four cadres were killed while they were asleep.”

The statement further recalled the painful history of the Kuki-Zo people, reminding both the Indian Army and the community of the long-standing injustices they have endured.

“This is to remind the Indian Army and all the Kuki-Zo people that the Meitei people had forced us to leave our territory. Many were killed, butchered, tortured, raped, lynched, and paraded naked. The atrocities inflicted upon us were witnessed and condemned by the global community. The Indian Army had failed to protect us and prevent the incidents. We are, however, grateful for the ensuing protection, stability, and the establishment of buffer zones between the Kuki-Zo and the Meiteis.”

Recounting the circumstances that led to their displacement, the UKNA said their people were forced to flee into the hills after the conflict began, reaffirming their deep-rooted connection to their ancestral land.

“After the war was declared on us, we fled into the hills, where we truly belong. Let us be reminded that our forefathers never agreed to merge the hills with the valley to form a state. However, we had been living in peace and had almost assimilated into the valley culture over the years. The ethnic cleansing campaign of May 2023, led by the then Chief Minister Biren Singh, utilizing the entire state government machinery, compelled us to take up arms in defense of our land and people.”

Clarifying its position, the UKNA stated that it poses no threat to society or the Indian Army, reiterating its firm stand for a peaceful resolution through the creation of a Separate Administration in the form of Union Territory with Legislature.

“We are neither a threat to society nor are we against the Indian Army. We stand firmly for a separate administration from Manipur state. We will surrender ourselves once the demand for a Separate Administration (Union Territory with Legislature) is fulfilled.”

The organisation also appealed to security forces to act judiciously and avoid being influenced by individuals pursuing personal gain under the guise of leadership.

“We therefore urge the security forces to avoid being misled by a few individuals who camouflage themselves as leaders of the people while their true intentions are to usurp power and money at the cost of their people’s dignity. We stand firmly with our people, fighting our real enemy who has divided us and spilled our innocent blood. We demand and fight for our rights under the Indian Constitution, while respecting the ongoing talks with the Centre and the Indian Army.”

Concluding the statement, the outfit reaffirmed its commitment to the Indian Constitution and its faith in ongoing peace efforts, asserting that its struggle is for justice, dignity, and the rightful protection of its people and land.
