Political rhetoric intensified in the Bhawanipur-Sorbhog constituency as opposition alliance candidate Manoranjan Talukdar launched a sharp attack on BJP leader Ranjeet Kumar Dass, accusing him of corruption and misgovernance.
Addressing a public gathering, Talukdar said that “corrupt individuals should not be sent to the Assembly,” asserting that the electorate would deliver a decisive verdict against Dass in the upcoming polls. He claimed that the BJP leader would face defeat, adding that “on May 4, the truth will be revealed and Ranjeet Kumar Dass will lose.”
Talukdar further alleged irregularities in development works, stating that funds were misused in the name of road construction.
“In this constituency, plaques have been installed three times for the same road project, but the money has been siphoned off,” he alleged, accusing the BJP of continuing “loot and misappropriation.”
Referring to earlier claims of a one-sided contest, Talukdar said Dass had initially stated there would be no competition in the constituency but is now “feeling threatened,” which, according to him, is why his name is repeatedly mentioned in campaign speeches.
He also alleged that Dass is surrounded only by financially influential supporters, while asserting that public sentiment is shifting in favour of the opposition alliance.
The remarks were made during an election campaign event in the constituency, as political campaigning gathers momentum ahead of the Assam Assembly elections.
