Serious allegations have surfaced against Manoranjan Talukdar, with Congress workers from the Bhawanipur–Sorbhog constituency accusing the legislator of threatening a senior party functionary amid internal dissent over seat-sharing arrangements ahead of the Assembly elections.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, March 3, party workers alleged that Abdul Latif Ahmed, president of the Gowardhana Block Congress Committee, received a threatening phone call from the MLA on the night of February 26. The call, they claimed, came after Ahmed protested against the decision to leave the Bhawanipur–Sorbhog constituency to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) as part of a broader electoral understanding.
According to the allegations, the block Congress president was warned to refrain from participating in party-related activities and was allegedly told to distance himself from organisational affairs. Congress workers further claimed that Ahmed was cautioned about “serious consequences” after the Assembly elections if he failed to comply.
Describing the episode as “deeply disturbing,” local Congress leaders said the alleged threats have created an atmosphere of fear within the constituency unit. They maintained that dissent over seat allocation is a legitimate political expression within the party framework and should not invite intimidation.
In response to the incident, the block Congress president, along with other party workers from Bhawanipur–Sorbhog, has reportedly submitted a formal letter to the party’s top leadership seeking intervention and an inquiry into the matter.
The allegations were made public during a press conference addressed by Congress workers from the constituency, who urged the party high command to take swift action to safeguard organisational integrity and ensure that internal democratic processes are respected.
As of now, there has been no official response from MLA Manoranjan Talukdar regarding the allegations.
