Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 13 said that the people of Assam stand firmly with Hindus in Bangladesh and urged the Government of India to take steps to stop atrocities against the Hindu community there.
Speaking to the media in Sribhumi town of North Karimganj constituency, the chief minister said, “We have always stood with Hindus in Bangladesh. I will urge the Government of India to ensure that atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh are stopped.”
Commenting on the Congress party’s protest over the renaming of Karimganj district as Sribhumi, Sarma remarked that the Congress functions like a tube light, understanding issues slowly. “They will gradually understand everything,” he said.
On the issue of teachers’ provincialisation, the chief minister stated that the portal-related work for the provincialisation of venture school teachers has been completed. He added that priority would be given to qualified and eligible candidates during the process.
Earlier in the day, Sarma distributed women entrepreneurship incentive cheques among 14,135 women beneficiaries at the government school playground in Sribhumi town. The programme was attended by ministers Krishnendu Paul and Kaushik Rai, along with local MLA Bijoy Malakar and other dignitaries.
Notably, as the day coincided with Uruka celebrations ahead of Magh Bihu, the chief minister refrained from making any aggressive political remarks during the event.
