Security forces apprehended two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction during a series of targeted operations conducted on January 10, 2026, in the Khonsa market and Deomali areas of Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district.

The operation was launched by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles, under the aegis of the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North).

“Based on specific and credible intelligence inputs received from own ground sources regarding rampant extortion activities in the general area of Khonsa market, a swift and well-coordinated operation was launched jointly by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police. During the operation, one OGW of NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) was apprehended near a wine shop in Khonsa market while he was collecting extortion money from a local shopkeeper,” an official of Assam Rifles said.

The apprehended individual has been identified as Khechan Khetey (30), son of Khenyak Khetey, a resident of Old Paniduria village of Borduria in Tirap district. He was an active OGW of the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction.

“We recovered one extortion note of NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi), one mobile phone, one SIM card, and collected CCTV footage related to extortion activities,” the official added.

Further, based on information extracted from the apprehended OGW and specific intelligence inputs received from own agencies, the operation was extended to the general area of Deomali.

Another OGW of the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction was apprehended while he was forcibly extorting money from a local shopkeeper at Deomali.

The second apprehended individual has been identified as Danwang Maphouk, son of Kekho Maphouk, a resident of Lazu village in Tirap district, Arunachal Pradesh. He is a strong sympathiser and an active OGW of the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction.
