Assam Minister Ranjit Kumar Das on January 4, attended a Panchayat workshop organised on an Abhayapuri Assembly constituency basis in Bongaigaon district, where he stressed the need for accountability in grassroots governance and made strong political assertions ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing the gathering, the minister said that if elected women Panchayat presidents remain absent from meetings and are represented by their husbands or male relatives, other members should take steps to remove such persons from the proceedings. He urged people to remain vigilant and ensure that elected representatives discharge their responsibilities themselves.
Commenting on opposition criticism, Das said that responses to Congress statements should be given by the party’s mandal-level presidents. “We do not indulge in misleading rhetoric. We believe in fulfilling our promises word for word,” he said.
Speaking about the forthcoming Assembly elections, the minister expressed confidence that the NDA would secure a decisive victory. He claimed that the alliance would not win fewer than 90 seats and asserted that the NDA is certain to secure between 90 and 98 seats in the next Assam Assembly polls.
The workshop focused on strengthening Panchayat-level functioning and enhancing public participation in local governance.
