The venue turned into a vibrant hub of creativity after the inaugural session, featuring stalls selling handmade crafts, traditional cuisine, and locally-produced goods.

The Second Lamka Youth Summit concluded on Saturday with a strong message of hope and renewal under the theme “Handcrafting Our Future – Towards Sustainable Development.”

Organised by the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) and Nest Lamka, with support from the North Eastern Council (NEC), the event brought together hundreds of students, entrepreneurs, educators, and community leaders in Lamka, Churachandpur district.

The summit was inaugurated by Rev. Chinkhengoupau Buansing, Youth Coordinator of the Evangelical Baptist Convention, followed by a hybrid inaugural session featuring Vumlunmang Vualnam, IAS, Secretary in the Ministry of Finance; Pausianmuang Tunglut, IES, Joint Director at the Ministry of DoNER; and Mara Kocho, Managing Director of NEHHDC. Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar, IAS, served as the functional president and addressed participants on “Handcrafting Sustainable Development through Peace.”

In his welcome remarks, Nangmuansang Lethil, Chairman of Nest Lamka, spoke about the recent turmoil that has deeply affected Lamka and the wider Zo region, saying that instability has erased economic opportunities for young people.

He said the summit was conceived as a platform for youth to rediscover their purpose and rebuild pathways to progress.

Addressing the gathering online, Vumlunmang Vualnam urged participants to adapt to rapid technological change and become producers rather than passive consumers in the emerging digital and AI-driven world.

He lauded the organisers for creating a space where youth could focus on adding value and contributing meaningfully to society.

The venue turned into a vibrant hub of creativity after the inaugural session, featuring stalls selling handmade crafts, traditional cuisine, and locally-produced goods.

Young artisans demonstrated traditional skills such as bamboo crafting, loin loom weaving, and traditional rice husking, while folk singers and dancers engaged participants in drumming and traditional dance lessons. The event also hosted a quiz on Zomi customary laws and a chess tournament organised by the Lamka Chess Club.

Interactive workshops on entrepreneurship, banking, storytelling, fitness, and restorative justice were held throughout the day. Experts including franchise consultant M.K. Gualnam, SBI officers Ruata Khuptong and Lalrammawi, photographer Zamlalmuan Naulak, and fitness trainer H. Thangminlian led the sessions.

With its focus on creativity, sustainability, and community, the Second Lamka Youth Summit served as a reminder of the power of youth in rebuilding and reimagining a resilient future for the region.
