The warning came after the Union convened an emergency meeting in response to the abduction of a KU official by the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) faction operating across the Myanmar border.

The Konyak Union (KU) has issued a strong directive banning all armed factions from parading in uniforms or carrying weapons within Mon district, Nagaland.

The warning came after the Union convened an emergency meeting in response to the abduction of a KU official by the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) faction operating across the Myanmar border.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the KU said representatives from the Tobu, Mopong, Longchang, Aboi, Chen, Mon, Longshen, Phomching, Tizit, Wakching and Naginimora units, along with Konyak civil society organisations, had convened at the KU office in Mon after learning of the incident. The Union said the reasons for the detention were “best known to those responsible.”

The KU expressed its sincere appreciation to the Konyak Union Phomching Unit, Konyak Union Myanmar, Longwa Village Council, the Angh of Khanmoi Village (Myanmar) and the leaders of Gozu Village (Myanmar) for their prompt and effective intervention, which led to the safe release of the detained official. It also acknowledged the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) faction for cooperating with Konyak directives in facilitating the release.

Following detailed deliberations, the Konyak Union stated that all armed factions had been directed to refrain from parading in uniforms or carrying arms within Mon district. The Union warned that no faction should engage in forceful demands, abductions, or acts of threat and intimidation.

It further cautioned that any group failing to comply with the directive would face an immediate declaration of non-cooperation from the Union. In such a scenario, the KU said it would organise and mobilise Konyak youth to be deployed at designated locations to confront and neutralise any violations.
